Danantara Explores Concert Venue Investment in Indonesia
The government has begun preparing steps to bring international-standard concert venues to Indonesia. The Ministry of Tourism has revealed that it is exploring investment cooperation with Danantara to build performance facilities deemed capable of accommodating music concerts and various global-scale events.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana stated that discussions have been held with Danantara officials. According to her, the need for adequate concert venues is a primary aspiration of music promoters in the country.
“We are also talking with the CEO of Danantara about investing in venues, especially for concerts,” Widiyanti said after a press conference on the Priority Program Update/PHTC and Increasing National Tourism Competitiveness in Jakarta on Wednesday (July 15, 2026).
Widiyanti explained that Indonesia already has several stadiums frequently used for concerts, such as Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (GBK) and Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). However, both are considered inadequate to fully meet the needs of the entertainment industry.
GBK, for example, is prioritized as a sports facility, so concert schedules often clash with matches and other official events. While JIS is considered to have adequate facilities, it still faces challenges in terms of transportation access and traffic congestion during events.
Nevertheless, Widiyanti is optimistic that these issues can be addressed through improvements to the infrastructure and transportation system currently being undertaken by the Jakarta Provincial Government.
In addition to building new venues, the Ministry of Tourism is also working to expedite the licensing process for concerts and other large-scale events to make them more efficient and user-friendly for organizers.
According to Widiyanti, the events industry makes a significant contribution to the tourism sector because it attracts tourists, stimulates the local economy, and creates business opportunities for MSMEs, creative workers, and artists.
“Events not only attract tourists, but also have a multiplier effect on the regional economy and create numerous job opportunities,” said Widiyanti.
As part of strengthening the national events industry ecosystem, the Ministry of Tourism continues to develop various programs, including Event by Indonesia and Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN), to increase the competitiveness of tourist destinations and attract more international events to Indonesia.
