Domestic financial markets closed trading on Thursday (July 16, 2026) with positive sentiment. The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) strengthened by more than one percent, while the rupiah exchange rate fell back below Rp 18,000 per US dollar.

According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the JCI closed at 6,108, up 66.2 points, or 1.1 percent, compared to the previous session’s closing price. This gain also brought the index to its highest level during the trading session.

Throughout trading, the JCI briefly reached a low of 6,024 before rebounding and closing. This movement reflected increased investor buying interest in the afternoon session.

Trading activity was also quite lively. Total transaction volume reached approximately 30 billion shares with a transaction value of Rp 13 trillion. Trading frequency reached 2.3 million transactions, while market capitalization increased to Rp 10,682 trillion.

The index’s positive performance was also driven by the dominance of rising stocks. A total of 372 issuers closed in the green, while 238 stocks experienced corrections and 185 stocks ended unchanged.

Not only the stock market, but the rupiah exchange rate also showed strength against the US dollar. The Indonesian currency managed to return below the psychological level of Rp18,000 per US dollar after previously hovering around that level.

According to Bloomberg data, the rupiah closed at Rp17,986 per US dollar, strengthening 82 points, or approximately 0.45 percent, compared to the previous closing position. This strengthening reflects positive sentiment, which also supported the domestic financial market at the end of trading that day.
