Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to address parliament regarding investment losses suffered by Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (KWAP), a Malaysian civil servants’ pension fund, in the Indonesian aquaculture startup eFishery.

Anwar, who also serves as Malaysia’s Finance Minister, confirmed that he will answer parliamentarians’ questions regarding the developments in the case.

“I will answer questions in the State Council tomorrow,” Anwar said, as quoted on Monday (July 20, 2026).

This case emerged after the Malaysian Ministry of Finance confirmed that KWAP was the victim of an alleged organized fraud following the manipulation of financial statements by eFishery’s management.

KWAP previously revealed that it had invested 163.4 million Malaysian ringgit in eFishery. This represents approximately 2.51 percent of the shares in the fisheries technology company.

In a separate statement, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) stated that it had formed a special team to thoroughly review and investigate the alleged investment losses.

Meanwhile, eFishery is an Indonesian startup founded in 2013 and known for its innovative fish farming technology, including a digitally-based automated fish feeding system.

The eFishery case also implicated one of its founders, Gibran Huzaifah, who was reportedly sentenced to nine years in prison by a Bandung court last year after being found guilty of embezzlement and money laundering (TPPU).
