Modi Prays for Progress of Indonesia and India in Prambanan
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Prambanan Temple was one of the most memorable highlights of his trip to Indonesia. Accompanied by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Modi used the opportunity to offer prayers for the future of both countries.
In a press conference after visiting the temple complex in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), Modi said he was honored to pray at one of the sacred Hindu sites with high historical and spiritual value.
According to Modi, Prambanan Temple is not only a world cultural heritage but also a symbol of civilization that holds profound meaning for Hindus. The presence of statues of Lord Shiva, Goddess Durga, and Lord Ganesha makes the temple a revered place of worship for centuries.
“Today, I also have the honor to pray in the most traditional manner and pay my respects at this sacred temple,” Modi said.
He explained that his prayers were not only aimed at diplomatic relations between Indonesia and India, but also for the brotherhood between the peoples of both countries to become even stronger in the future.
“I pray here for the strengthening of relations between India and Indonesia, for the strengthening of friendship between our peoples, for the well-being of the people of both our countries, and for the rapid progress and prosperity of both our nations,” he said.
Modi acknowledged that his visit to Prambanan left a deep impression. For him, the experience of praying at the historic temple was one of the most valuable spiritual moments during his tenure as India’s leader.
He also expressed his joy at being able to visit Prambanan Temple with President Prabowo Subianto. According to Modi, the moment reflected the growing close friendship between Indonesia and India, both at the government and community levels.
