Sri Mulyani Officially Says Goodbye as New Finance Minister

Sri Mulyani Indrawati officially left her position as Minister of Finance after nearly two decades leading the state treasury. This strategic position is now filled by Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on Monday (September 8, 2025).

The day after her inauguration, Sri Mulyani held a handover ceremony with Purbaya at the Mezzanine Hall, Juanda I Building, Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), Jakarta, on Tuesday (September 9, 2025). The event began at 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.

In her farewell remarks, Sri Mulyani expressed her gratitude to all those who had supported her during her tenure amidst various economic challenges and global dynamics.

“I take my leave this morning, and I ask that from now on, our privacy, or my personal space as an ordinary citizen, be respected,” Sri Mulyani said.

The End of a Long Career at the Ministry of Finance

Sri Mulyani is known as the only woman to have served as Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia. His 17-year career has been marked by numerous achievements, including an international award as the World’s Best Finance Minister.

This position change is part of President Prabowo’s cabinet reshuffle. In addition to the Minister of Finance, several other positions appointed include the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, the Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, the Minister of Cooperatives, and the Minister of Youth and Sports.

Profile of Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa

Before being appointed Minister of Finance, Purbaya served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). His term at LPS was supposed to end at the end of 2025.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi emphasized that ministerial changes are the president’s prerogative.

“There are many considerations; this is the president’s prerogative,” he stressed.

With Purbaya’s official inauguration, the baton of leadership of the Ministry of Finance has now passed from Sri Mulyani, who has long been an icon of Indonesian financial reform.
