Indonesian Citizen from Maros Dies, Allegedly Murdered in Armenia
An Indonesian citizen (WNI) with the initials VAT, from Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, was reported dead in Armenia. The victim’s family suspects he was murdered, allegedly by his co-worker and roommate.
According to information received by the family, Armenian police have arrested six individuals suspected of involvement in the case. Meanwhile, one other suspect remains at large and is being sought by authorities.
The family suspects the incident was triggered by an alleged embezzlement of approximately IDR 250 million in company funds. According to information they received, the victim was invited to help him escape with the money, but he refused.
This refusal allegedly made the perpetrators worried that the victim would report their actions to the company. The family believes this suspicion was the motive behind the murder that killed VAT.
The Armenian police are still investigating to uncover the full chronology of the incident, including determining the involvement of all parties suspected of being responsible for the victim’s death.
Meanwhile, the family hopes the Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI), will provide assistance in the ongoing legal process and assist in the repatriation of the victim’s body to Indonesia.
“We also hope the perpetrator is punished appropriately and that our child’s body be immediately repatriated to Indonesia,” the family said in a statement posted on Instagram by @periasjenazah.gloriaelsa.
As of the publication of this article, there has been no official statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Indonesian representative in Armenia regarding the progress of the case.
