Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto urged entrepreneurs not to lay off employees amidst the current economic dynamics.

He made this statement during a dialogue with entrepreneurs from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). He believes the business world now needs to prioritize sustainability over simply calculating profit and loss.

“The government hopes that Kadin entrepreneurs, who have been trained in Magelang with the spirit of Mount Tidar, will not hesitate to carry out layoffs. So, any single layoff is contrary to the spirit of Tidar,” Airlangga said at the Kadin Tower in Jakarta on Thursday.

According to him, Indonesia needs an additional 2.5 to 3 million jobs annually across various industrial sectors.

“One is green industrialization, which also requires a significant amount of aggregate. Second, digitalization, which requires a significant amount. Just now, AI labeling alone could require up to 10,000 workers, and that’s for one company,” he concluded.
