Police are still investigating the cause of death of a Canadian citizen with the initials AJK (46), who was found dead in a villa in the Jimbaran area, South Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali.

Bali Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Commissioner Ariasandy, said the victim’s body was discovered on Monday (July 6) at around 2:30 p.m. WITA (Central Indonesian Time) after the victim’s friend became concerned after being unable to contact him since morning.

“The victim was found inside the villa after his friend and an employee checked the location because the victim could not be contacted since morning,” said Ariasandy.

According to Ariasandy, the incident began when the victim’s friend, with the initials BJ, intended to deliver a motorcycle to the villa where AJK was staying. Unresponsive to calls and messages, BJ asked his employee, with the initials DE, to check on the victim.

Upon arriving at the villa, DE found the door locked. BJ then arrived at the location and decided to force open the door after receiving no answer from inside.

“After the door was opened, the victim was found dead. The witness then reported the incident to the police,” he said.

The police then conducted a crime scene investigation with the Denpasar Police Identification Team, the Bali Police, and the Forensic Laboratory to collect evidence and determine the cause of death.

From preliminary investigations, investigators also obtained information that the victim had previously left a message for one of his friends to contact his mother if anything happened to him.

Furthermore, several witnesses stated that the victim had a history of mental health problems while still living in Jakarta. The victim reportedly underwent medical treatment. However, Ariasandy emphasized that all of this information is still being examined and cannot yet be used as a basis for drawing conclusions.

“We are still investigating and awaiting further test results to confirm all the facts regarding this incident,” Ariasandy said.

According to witness statements, the victim was last seen entering the villa area on Sunday (July 5th) at around 3:00 PM WITA. The police are continuing their investigation to fully determine the cause of the foreign national’s death.
