Rupiah Weakens to Rp17,948

The Indonesian stock market started the week with positive performance. The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed in the green on Monday (July 20, 2026), although the rupiah exchange rate remained under pressure against the US dollar.

According to data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), the JCI closed at 6,231, up 57.2 points or 0.91 percent compared to the previous close.

Throughout the trading session, the index reached a high of 6,249 and a low of 6,191, before closing higher.

Trading activity on the stock exchange was also quite lively. Total trading volume reached 35 billion shares with a transaction value of approximately IDR 16 trillion. Trading frequency was recorded at 2.3 million times, while market capitalization increased to IDR 10,860 trillion.

Of the total traded stocks, 399 closed higher, 210 fell, and 185 remained unchanged.

On the other hand, the foreign exchange market continues to show pressure on the domestic currency. According to Bloomberg data, the rupiah closed lower at Rp17,948 per US dollar, a 27-point drop, or 0.15 percent, compared to the previous trading day.

This weakening pushed the rupiah back closer to the psychological level of Rp18,000 per US dollar, although the domestic stock market maintained its upward trend at the close of trading at the start of the week.
