Reynhard Sinaga’s Parents Write to President Prabowo
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, confirmed that the parents of convicted rapist Reynhard Sinaga have sent a letter to President Prabowo Subianto. In the letter, Reynhard’s family requested that the Indonesian government facilitate his repatriation from the UK.
“Yes, his parents sent a letter, but we haven’t discussed it at all,” said Yusril Ihza Mahendra when met in Jakarta on Monday (November 10, 2025).
Yusril explained that the government has not yet taken an official stance on the request. He said the letter from Reynhard’s family has not been discussed internally and is still awaiting review by the relevant ministries before being submitted to the President.
“Yes, we will certainly discuss it later because the letter is addressed to the President. But we will certainly provide our analysis and considerations, which will then be conveyed to the President,” he explained.
According to Yusril, every request regarding the transfer of prisoners from abroad must undergo legal, diplomatic, and foreign policy review. The government, he continued, will ensure that any steps taken remain in line with national law and applicable international agreements.
Reynhard Sinaga is an Indonesian citizen who was sentenced to life in prison by a British court for the rape of dozens of men. The case became one of the biggest criminal scandals in British legal history. Reynhard is still serving his sentence in a British prison, while
