Sultan HB Yogyakarta Confirms He Never Uses Strobe Lights
Social media has recently been abuzz with the “Stop Tot Tot Wuk Wuk” campaign, a scathing critique of the widespread use of sirens and strobe lights on the roads.
Many netizens have uploaded photos of “Stop Tot Tot Wuk Wuk” stickers they have affixed to their vehicles.
Ditya Nanaryo Aji, Public Relations Coordinator for the Yogyakarta Special Region Communication and Informatics Office (IKP), confirmed that the official car of the Governor of the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, does not use strobe lights.
“Yes, because he (the Sultan) probably doesn’t feel it’s necessary. His daily commute from Keraton Kilen to the office is also short. It tends to run smoothly, without traffic jams,” he said, as quoted on Wednesday (September 24, 2025).
Ditya also added that the Sultan rarely uses escorts for official or private vehicles.
“He also rarely uses escorts for other official purposes, for example, visits to districts or cities. He rarely uses escorts,” he said.
The “Stop Tot Tot Wuk Wuk” campaign emerged as a form of public protest against the perceived indiscriminate use of sirens and strobes.
