Sinjai DPRD Member Allegedly Sleeping During Plenary Session
A video shows Sinjai Regency Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) member Andi Zainal Iskandar allegedly sleeping during a plenary session.
However, the United Development Party (PPP) legislator denied the circulating video’s narrative that he fell asleep during the meeting.
The incident occurred while Sinjai DPRD Speaker Andi Jusman was giving remarks during the plenary session to sign the 2026 Regional Budget (APBD) KUA-PPAS agreement at the Sinjai DPRD on Friday (September 12).
“This needs to be clarified because I don’t think I was sleeping, I was just bowing. I only briefly bowed, so why is that being reported? It’s just random,” Zainal said on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).
He admitted that he had eye problems at the time and was wearing glasses. He suspected the eye problems were causing his headache.
“I wasn’t sleeping, but I was wearing glasses that day, because when my eyes hurt, my head hurts too,” he explained.
“That forum doesn’t require debate because it’s just a signing ceremony. It’s just a formal mechanism; discussing the regional budget requires approval from the regent and the DPRD leadership. It’s different when discussing a regional regulation, which does require debate,” he concluded.
