Zulhas Says 481,000 Hectares of Forest Area in Papua Will Be Rezoned
Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan shared the latest developments from Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni during a coordination meeting at his ministry’s office.
A forest area of 481,000 hectares in Papua is ready to be utilized for food, water, and energy self-sufficiency.
“The Minister of Forestry reported that 481,000 hectares have been spatially planned,” Zulhas said when met at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).
He stated that the government is targeting a total forest area with completed spatial planning of 1 million hectares.
The meeting was also attended by Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid, President Director of PT Agrinas Pangan Nusantara Joae Angelo De Sousa Mota, and Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Rachmat Pambudy.
Also in attendance was South Papua Governor Apolo Safanpo. Zulhas stated that the meeting discussed accelerating the development of a self-sufficient food, water, and energy area in South Papua.
“To be precise, it’s in Merauke, specifically in Wanam. God willing, we will complete all spatial planning changes, necessary paperwork such as HGU (Land Use Rights) and other necessary documents,” he concluded.
