The Gerindra Party Faction Proposes Tightening of Social Media Use
The Gerindra Party faction of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has proposed regulations to tighten social media usage, including limiting each person to one account.
The Gerindra Party faction made the proposal after responding to the widespread rumors circulating about the resignation of DPR member Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo.
The Secretary of the Gerindra DPR faction, Bambang Haryadi, assessed that the rapid flow of information on social media is often exploited to spread misinformation.
“On social media, any issue can be manipulated. Sometimes, unclear issues are exaggerated to the point of influencing community groups. Therefore, in the future, we need to consider a single account policy, where each citizen can only have one social media account,” Bambang said at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Thursday (September 11, 2025).
“With a one-account-per-person policy, information on social media can be more accountable, not controlled by anonymous accounts or parties with unclear identities,” he added.
The Gerindra faction also emphasized that the discourse was not intended to restrict citizens’ freedom of expression, but rather to ensure that digital space is not used to spread hatred or slander.
“We don’t want freedom on social media to become a means for framing that harms individuals or groups. What we hope for is a healthy and responsible digital space,” he concluded.
