DPR Calls Indonesian Finance Minister a Cowboy

Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa held his first meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday (September 10, 2025), with the agenda being to discuss the Ministry of Finance’s Work Plan and Budget (RKA) for the 2026 fiscal year.

Purbaya emphasized that this was his first time attending the DPR in his capacity as Minister of Finance, having previously served as Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS).

He touched on the difference in communication style between his time at LPS and his current position.

According to him, he now has to be more careful in his statements. “When I was at LPS, they said I spoke a bit like a cowboy, but now I can’t. I’ve just felt the difference. So now I’ll stick to the speech prepared by my staff,” Purbaya said.

In response to this statement, a member of Commission XI of the DPR offered a lighthearted quip. “Mr. Minister, you can be a cowboy, but there’s substance to it,” he concluded, drawing laughter from the meeting participants.
