Pertamina EP Field Tambun Creates New Economic Growth Through KAPUKITA
Pertamina EP Tambun Field recently created Talita, an integrated wastewater treatment technology, ABR-Chlorination.
This innovation reduces domestic wastewater pollutant content by utilizing natural kapok fiber (ceiba pentandra).
Pertamina EP Tambun Field Environmental Expert, Talitha Jocelin Indiari, explained that the internal absorbent requirement reaches 140 units per year.
The absorbent used is in the form of booms (snake booms), measuring 400 centimeters long and 20 centimeters wide.
She explained that Talita applies multi-stage filtration using materials including gravel, palm fiber, silica sand, kapok fiber, and activated carbon, which can reduce the organic pollutant load.
She also stated that Talita’s innovation has successfully reduced the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) content of domestic wastewater by up to 87.2 percent.
Furthermore, Pertamina EP Tambun Field also actively involves local residents through the BS21 Waste Bank.
This waste bank is located in the Villa Gading Harapan 3 housing complex, Kedungjaya Village, Babelan District, and is a strategic partner in household waste management and local economic development.
The absorbent, called KAPUKITA, is made from simple materials such as kapok fruit, needles and thread, and baptismal cloth.
The production process is relatively easy, making it accessible to the public, especially housewives looking to supplement their income.
“This absorbent is not limited to the oil and gas sector, but can also provide significant benefits to various other business sectors,” she said.
Ade Iis Sumarni, a resident of Kedungjaya Village, Babelan Bekasi, from the BS21 Waste Bank, described KAPUKITA absorbent as a product with high economic value.
With an estimated production cost of only Rp22,571 per unit, the selling price reaches Rp100,000 per unit, generating a potential profit of Rp77,429 per unit.
“This is very promising and could be a new economic opportunity for the community, especially housewives,” said Ade Iis Sumarni.
This initiative is also supported by the Bekasi Regency Government. Sukmawati, Secretary of the Bekasi Regency Environmental Agency, expressed her appreciation for Pertamina EP Field Tambun’s innovative approach.
“If developed further, utilizing kapok fiber as an absorbent could be a sustainable solution to preserve the environment while increasing the economic value of this plant,” said Sukmawati.
