Finance Minister Purbaya Responds to the People’s Demands for the 17+8 Era
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa responded to the 17+8 People’s Demands (Tuncur Rakyat) that have been echoing on social media. He stated that these demands represent the voices of a small segment of society who feel their lives are lacking.
“I haven’t studied that (17+8 People’s Demands). But look, it’s the voice of a small segment of our people. Why? Maybe some feel disturbed, their lives are lacking,” Purbaya said at a press conference at the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) in Jakarta on Monday (September 8, 2025).
“First, if I create 6-7 percent economic growth, those (demands) will automatically disappear. They’ll be busy looking for work and eating well instead of demonstrating,” he added.
According to him, President Prabowo Subianto instructed him to pursue economic growth as quickly as possible.
“We will pursue the fastest and most optimal growth possible. If you say we can’t create it tomorrow, if I say we can, I’m lying,” he concluded.
