Bekasi Students Hold Peaceful Demonstration at DPRD

Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto, Deputy Mayor Harris Bobohoe, Bekasi City Council (DPRD) Speaker Sardi Effendi, Faisal, and several other DPRD members were present. These executive and legislative officials sat on the street with the protesters to listen to their concerns.

A demonstration by Bekasi City students calling themselves the Bekasi People’s Resistance Council (DPRB) gathered in front of the Bekasi City DPRD Building on Monday (September 1, 2025).

The protest coordinator, Hafiz Azri Nasution, stated that the situation in Bekasi City and Regency, and even at the national level, is not good. People’s rights continue to be violated by a government that prioritizes oligarchic interests.

“Today, the people of Bekasi are united, standing not only to complain, but to demand justice guaranteed by the constitution,” said Hafiz.

According to him, this criminalization proves that the state is more afraid of the people’s voice than the rampant crimes of corruptors. In Bekasi, corruption blatantly violates Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption, yet the embezzlement of public funds is allowed to continue, while those fighting for justice are hunted down by the authorities.

Another irony is the betrayal of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, which stipulates that the earth, air, and all natural resources are intended for the greatest possible welfare of the people. However, in reality, people’s land in 41 areas of Bekasi City has been evicted and mortgaged for the benefit of investors. “People have been evicted without a solution,” he said.

Furthermore, he said, education and health, which should be the people’s rights as stated in Articles 31 and 34 of the 1945 Constitution, are still far from what is expected. In Bekasi, school fees are skyrocketing, healthcare is expensive, and a decent life is only a dream for many.

“How long will the people be allowed to suffer like this? The people of Bekasi will not remain silent. Oppression of the people must not be considered normal. Today, the people have proven that their voice is far stronger than the fear instilled by those in power,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, in attendance were Bekasi Mayor Tri Adhianto, Bekasi Deputy Mayor Harris Bobohoe, Bekasi City Council (DPRD) Speaker Sardi Effendi, Faisal, and several other DPRD members. The executive and legislative officials sat on the street with the protesters to listen to their aspirations.

“We, the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkopimda) and members of the Bekasi City Council, declare our commitment to not engage in corruption. Second, we protect Bekasi City from anarchy,” said Tri.
