US Holds Contest to Capture Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro
The United States (US) government has increased the reward for the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who faces charges of drug trafficking into the US.
Washington has increased the reward for Maduro’s capture to US$50 million, equivalent to Rp 815 billion. However, the US does not recognize Maduro’s victories in the previous two elections.
The announcement of the increased reward for Maduro’s capture was made by US Attorney General Pam Bondi in a video statement posted to social media, as reported by AFP on Sunday (August 10, 2025).
“Today, the Department of Justice and the State Department announced a historic reward of US$50 million for information leading to the capture of Nicolas Maduro,” she said.
“He is one of the largest drug traffickers in the world and a threat to our national security,” she added.
This reward is an increase from the US reward offered in January, which was US$25 million (Rp 407.5 billion).
“He is one of the largest drug traffickers in the world and a threat to our national security,” she said.
Meanwhile, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil called the reward offered by the US Attorney General “pathetic.”
“The most ridiculous smokescreen we’ve ever seen,” he said.
“The dignity of our homeland is not for sale. We reject this crude political propaganda operation,” he stressed.
