American fast-food chain Wendy’s will close hundreds of stores across the United States as part of its business recovery strategy.

Wendy’s interim CEO, Ken Cook, said the closures will encompass approximately 200 to 350 stores, a mid-single-digit percentage of its 6,000 US stores.

“The affected stores are those that have consistently underperformed and are weighing on the overall performance of the chain,” Cook said in a statement to analysts.

Cook said the closures will be phased in starting this year and continuing through 2026. This move is part of Wendy’s efforts to strengthen its financial performance and improve operational efficiency amid intense competition in the fast-food industry.

Wendy’s, known for its signature burgers and fries, has recently faced pressure from rising operating costs and changing consumer behavior post-pandemic.
