The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) stated that it will continue to coordinate with competent authorities in Taiwan and related parties to confirm the Indonesian instant noodles found by Taiwanese authorities to contain ethylene oxide.

BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar stated that his agency had received information from the Taiwanese government regarding the ethylene oxide (EtO) content in Indomie Soto Banjar Limau Kulit instant noodles produced by Indofood.

“This product is not officially exported from the manufacturer to Taiwan,” Taruna said.

According to him, this standard differs from those of several other countries, including the United States, the European Union, and Indonesia, which differentiate the requirements for EtO with chloroethanol (2-CE) as the analyte, rather than the total EtO limit.

“Based on the results of a search of BPOM registration data, the product with this variant has a BPOM distribution permit and is therefore permitted for distribution in Indonesia and consumption,” he concluded.
