Pestapora Music Festival Ends Partnership with PT Freeport Indonesia
The Pestapora music festival officially announced its termination of its partnership with PT Freeport Indonesia on Saturday (September 6, 2025).
“As of today, Saturday, September 6, 2025, Pestapora has terminated its partnership with PT Freeport Indonesia,” wrote the Instagram account @pestapora.
“Pestapora confirms that for the second day, September 6, 2025, and the third day, September 7, 2025, we are no longer tied to or affiliated with PT Freeport Indonesia,” it added.
Netizens also commented on the matter. Pestapora, an Indonesian music festival, was criticized for its partnership with Freeport-McMoRan, the US mining company that operates the Grasberg mine in Papua.
According to him, this mine is known for damaging the environment and causing human rights issues, as reported by the Corporate Accountability Lab in 2023.
“So, the bottom line: this collaboration has sparked outrage because Freeport is considered to be harming Papua, both ecologically and socially, and this is a sensitive issue in Indonesia,” he said.
“So far, five bands/musicians have withdrawn from Pestapora: Kelelabat Malam, Durga, Leipzig, Xin Lie, and Negatifa. They’re coming, but they’re not performing as a band, namely Rebellion Rose (on stage + giving speeches),” wrote a netizen.
Pestapora 2025 is scheduled to take place at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on September 5, 6, and 7. Setlist swaps, collaborations, and exciting experiences beyond music will be available, such as stand-up comedy and padel.
