Donald Trump Restricts Immigrant Entry?
President Donald Trump is increasingly serious about protecting America from immigrants deemed risky. Following a policy of arresting immigrants deemed illegal, the White House is requiring a $15,000 deposit for visa applications.
The US Department of State announced a new provision. The provision states: Consular officers may require covered non-immigrant visa applicants to post a bond of up to $15,000 as a condition of visa issuance, as determined by the consular officer.
The statement stated that business or leisure visa applications from citizens who overstay, lack verification, or offer citizenship by investment may be subject to this program.
As reported on the whitehouse.gov website, Trump issued a statement on June 4 that during his first term, he restricted the entry of foreign nationals and could jeopardize national security.
“The United States must be vigilant throughout the visa issuance process to ensure that foreigners approved for entry into the United States do not intend to harm American citizens or our national interests,” he said in the statement.
In the same statement, Trump also restricted the entry of citizens from 12 countries. These are Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Furthermore, seven countries are partially restricted from entering the US: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
